What IP association actually is

Marketplaces do not look at a single signal — they correlate several. Knowing which layer is which is the difference between fixing your real problem and paying for a tool that does not address it.

The four layers platforms correlate

Network layer

Your exit IP, the range it belongs to, and whether that range is registered to a consumer ISP or a hosting provider. This layer produces the most false positives: a shared datacenter range carries the history of everyone else who has ever used it.

Device layer

Browser fingerprint — user agent, canvas rendering, installed fonts, screen geometry — plus cookies and local storage. Two sessions with an identical fingerprint look like one operator no matter what the IP says.

Identity layer

Payout account, card, business registration, address, phone and email. These are declared rather than inferred, which makes overlap here the strongest signal of the four.

Behaviour layer

Login times, session rhythm, navigation patterns. The weakest signal on its own, and the one most often overstated in marketing material.

How to audit your own setup

  1. 1

    Find your real exit IP

Check what the outside world actually sees, not what your router reports. AssumeIP shows the live exit IP, country and latency before you rely on a connection.

  2. 2

Check how that IP is classified

Look up whether the address belongs to a consumer ISP or to a hosting provider, and whether its range appears on public abuse lists. A residential classification is what an ordinary local shopper looks like.

  3. 3

Fix the layer that is actually broken

If the problem is a shared datacenter address, a residential IP fixes that layer. If your fingerprints or payout details overlap, no IP change will help — those need separate tooling and separate entities.

Frequently asked questions

Does a residential IP alone prevent account linking?+

No. It addresses the network layer only. If two accounts share a browser fingerprint or a payout account they can still be correlated. Anyone claiming a proxy alone solves linking is overselling.

What is a false-positive association?+

When your account is linked to an unrelated one purely because you shared an IP range. This is common on datacenter and public VPN ranges, where thousands of unrelated users exit through the same handful of addresses.

How do I know whether my IP is clean?+

Check its classification — residential or datacenter — and its reputation. A residential IP assigned by a consumer ISP and used only by you carries no one else's history.

Is a rotating proxy better for this?+

Usually worse. An address that changes mid-session looks less like a stable local user, not more. A static residential IP per storefront is the more consistent signal.

Where does AssumeIP fit in?+

It bridges a real residential IP to your device and shows the live exit IP so you can verify the network layer yourself. It does not touch device fingerprints or identity data, and how many storefronts you may operate is governed by each marketplace's own seller terms.

Do I need a separate IP for each account?+

If you want each account to present a distinct, stable network identity, yes. AssumeIP lets you save a destination per storefront and switch between them with one tap.
